
Dick was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1932. He served in
the Air Force during the Korean War and participated in the
first H-bomb test at Eniwetok, Marshall Islands in 1952. He
was stationed at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines,
1953-1955.
He graduated with honors from Florida Southern College in
1958; served as an FBI agent from 1962 to 1965 and as
security manager for Winn Dixie Stores from 1965 to 1967.
Since 1967, Dick has been involved in commercial real estate
and development, including several shopping centers for Winn
Dixie, Publix, Walgreens, and others. He works full time in
the real estate industry as broker/owner of Miller
Properties of Lakeland.
Dick joined Lakeland South Rotary in 1971. He has served as
the club's first fund-raising chairman, 1972 and 1973;
served as club president 1974-1975; and played left field
and batted cleanup for LSR's outstanding softball team for
several years, until team manager Ron O'Connor demoted him
to right field and last batter.
Dick has been married to Rita Gibson Miller for 38 years.
Rita's dad, Reuben Gibson, was mayor of Lakeland in 1962 and
later managed Cleveland Heights Golf and Country Club for 27
years. Dick has four children and eleven grandchildren.
Dick’s oldest granddaughter is in her second year of medical
school at FSU, son Corey owns Miller Construction Management
in Lakeland, and daughter Melissa is a pharmacist in San
Antonio, Texas.
